In Sharepoint 2010, I get the error “the business data connectivity metadata store is currently unavailable” when using Sharepoint Desginer 2010 to create a new External Content Type. I also see that I was getting (401) unauthorized errors after seeing the error message.

SOLUTION: change the authentication provider from BASIC AUTHENTICATION to Windows Integrated Authentication (NTLM) in Sharepoint 2010′s Central Administration->Application Management page for your site(s).

Downside: Now my external internet explorer users will need to include the domain in their username.

It was convenient to have my guest stay in the same complex as me as opposed to driving to a motel/hotel.

To allow external users outside of your domain to use their username and password to log into your Sharepoint Server 2010 sites, you have four options:

1) Set the website/sharepoint server in their Trusted Sites list in Internet Explorer. For example, put example.com in the Internet Explorer’s trusted list. This automatically trusts the domain, example.com, and will set it as the default. This is annoying as your external users have to manually input this themselves in Internet Explorer!

2) Tell your Internet Explorer users to use the domain prefix to login. For example: example.com\JohnDoe

3) Use another browser besides Internet Explorer

4) Change the authentication method in IIS for your Sharepoint site to Basic authentication only and edit it so the default domain is set.

Make sure you are tunneling through SSL to protect their credentials and to restart the web site to take effect!

When working with Sharepoint 2010 Standalone, you might see this warning:
“database is in compatibility range and upgrade is recommended”.

To fix this, run the Sharepoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard under the START->Programs->Sharepoint menu. Ignore all this crap about running psconfig and Upgrade-SPContentDatabase in the Sharepoint PowerShell.

“The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.”

I got this error in Excel 2007. I tried reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable, but it did not work.
Solution: Run the Microsoft Office Diagnostics under START->Microsoft Office->Microsoft Office Tools.

I ate a nice place called Un PHO Gettable in Seattle in the Greenwood area. I got the large Pho Tai bowl for about $7.00. It wasn’t too bad.

As the negative people on Yelp have mentioned, it is slow service because only one lady works there and does everything by herself. I would definitely go back there again and get my pho cravings. I just wouldn’t go there if I was in a hurry!
